Watch Who You Trust
Indianapolis, Indiana, Saturday November 1.
We have 2 GPS systems, we have Streets And Trips on our lap top and a portable Garmin GPS device we call “Belinda”, we pay attention to both of them but generally defer to Belinda. We are on the road, rolling south down Highway 31 from South Bend. We have about a half tank of diesel and we want to get on the internet so we have programmed in a Flying J on the south west side of Indianapolis. It’s located at exit 4 on highway 465. As we approach Indianapolis from the North Belinda says “ignore 465, stay on 31.” I’ve been married for 28 years so I automatically do what I’m told. It’s a very scenic drive she has us on as we roll down through the Ritzy part of town. Marilyn is impressed with the abundance and the size of the mansions and estates we pass. Traffic builds and the flags go up when all of a sudden the lanes are divided by traffic cones, miles and miles of traffic cones. Now with the truck attached we are about 60′ long; there are places, lots of places we don’t fit. “Push On” says Belinda, “You can do it”. It seems, knowing our interest in running, Belinda has entered us in the Indianapolis Annual Marathon. We carry our 60′ next to thousands of courageous runners each abusing their bodies for 26.2 miles. Needless to say, the traffic cops directing us through are not amused. So right through the very clean and modern downtown Indianapolis we go, out the other side, right on to highway 465 where we are now directed North. We drive 465N for close to 2 miles when Belinda leads us off at exit 4 to our destination.
Now we know that all the best stories have happy endings: Diesel is close to $3.00 a gallon and for the next few days our daytime highs are to be in the 70’s.
