The Numbers
April 19th, 2009So we’ve been back in Canada for a couple of weeks, the dust is settling, finally. As you know, I’m back at work at Sicards, Marilyn will be at Marineland in a week or so and will spend the summer as Flipper’s personal assistant. We’ll both be finished by late October then we’ll be off somewhere for the winter.
We tried really hard to keep track of the money during our 5 months of travels and here in round numbers is what we spent. They are kind of in US dollars but sometimes the conversions from Pesos to Canadian or US gets little blurred.

I’m suprised at how little we spent on communication, that’s thanks to Skype, what a neat service. You can see we hit the entertainment number pretty much dead on, that’s only because we bought most of our booze in grocery stores, therefore it’s groceries, right? My guess was definetly low on entertainment and high on groceries.
The one that really suprises me is fuel. I may have missed a fill or two in my numbers, but remember we did 7700 miles for about $2500. We would have spent close to that if we had stayed home just back and forth to work. Down a little lower you see Tr fuel, that’s for the truck.
The insurance number includes both our health insurance and Mexican Auto insurance, maintenance includes the mirror I whacked in Ohio and the 3,500 pesos to get pulled out of the mud in Cerro Azul. Tolls include the 300 pesos to the policeman in Tampico.
We keep getting asked if we would do Mexico again. Mar’s answer is “Oh Probably, but maybe not this year”. My answer is “Why not this year”. Mar said it best when we were in Isla Aguada: “When you meet the people and walk the beaches you forget the roads”
The other side is that there lots of neat spots we haven’t seen in the US. We’ll see how the summer goes.

yipppeeeee ! congrats marilyn on getting the job at marineland!!! so exclusive backstage swimming passes with the dolphins and seals and whales???????hows things going? maybe soon cocktails??? weather a bit poopy this week.
