Mustang Island

February 27th, 2009

No related to “Mustang Sally”, but certainly an enjoyable experience. We are sitting at Pioneer Beach Resort on Mustang Island near the town of Port Aransas on the Texas Gulf Coast. We arrived on tuesday afternoon, only to get the last available spot. We think this is the first time on this trip we have been in a full park. It’s  gorgeous, right on the shores of the Gulf with cement pads and WiFi….this is living!

It’s probably the most active park we have been in as well. It seems everyone has a dog or 2 or 3, plus most have either bikes or fishing gear or both. The first morning we were here there was a fishing derby, as you can see it was very popular.

You can bike for hours on the sandy beaches and that’s exactly what we have been doing, getting in about a 10 mile ride each morning. Wednesday we biked north into Port Aransas. We arrived there just after a few fishermen had sold off their morning catch.

Yesterday we headed out south towards the State Park. Yes, we’ve been there before, remember,  last November on our way south. Obviously we like this area.

Mustang Island really nice, we love it! We are back in Quartzsite for a few days, no fishing here.

I get the impression that you are heading back to Canada. Food and wine will be waiting for you at our home. There is always extra room at our table.

Motorhome Renovations

February 26th, 2009

Not us, we are really happy with our motorhome. But others always seem to be able to find some way to make “improvements”

The door is an obvious “improvement” but look closer, see the chandelier in the front. Can you imagine that thing clinking at you as you drive down the road.

No, our motorhome is really nice as it is, thankyou.

The Roads Are Like Velvet

February 21st, 2009

  Adios Mexico,  Hola USA

So we knocked off the last 400 kms yesterday, we are now back in the US and the roads really, really feel much better. As we neared the US border yesterday you could see things begin to change. The houses looked more “North American”. We saw a “For Sale” sign instead of  the more usual “SeVende”. Everything is bigger, the highways, the houses, the shopping(hundreds of shopping centers, all full of cars), and the cars, thousands of cars. What we don’t see are any buses. Mexico has an amazing transportation system.

We are tucked in to the Monte Cristo Golf and Country Club and are parked on a cement pad, and cement is something we haven’t had in months. There is an RV Park in here with about 60 sites, we are surrounded by the golf course and housing. Our buds, Dale and Sheila are settled in this park because they, like the rest of the folks here, all enjoy their golf. Fortunately for us we arrived shortly before happy hour so it didn’t take long, we had met a bunch of new people.

There is pavement everywhere you look, we think today the tandem bike definitely comes down off the truck and we go for a spin, it will especially appreciate the roads. Now that’s something we haven’t done much of in the past few months. We left our fruit, vegetables, meat and eggs with a Mexican Marilyn met before the border (you can’t bring any of it through) so we’ll have to visit one of those big shopping centers too.

Our Star Choice Satellite TV has suddenly hundreds of channels, our Sirius radio doesn’t pop in and out (hasn’t for a couple of days), there are a bazillion local English speaking radio stations and we want to catch up on the latest with Dale and Sheila. And I’ll bet you that tomorrow, Sunday morning, I can even find a big English newspaper.

I gotta go, we’re going to be busy.
