Things We Miss

January 31st, 2009

We certainly aren’t missing the weather back in Canada, in fact we try not to even think about that. When ever we talk to the kids, friends or family though, one of the first things that comes up is the cold and snow. We miss the kids, but really enjoyed the time they were here and with skype we can talk to them regularily. We aren’t finding a lot of good beef here, but we’re getting better at that.  What we can’t find is baked beans (lots of beans but no cans of pork and beans) and of course, just every once in a while, we miss Tim’s.

The other day we were walking past one of our neighbors, Gord Watters. He and his wife Jane are from Winnipeg. Anyway, in his hand he has a Tim’s cup and it’s full of Tim’s coffee. That’s unusal for two reasons. One, there are no Tim’s in Mexico and more importantly, you usually see him with a cold beer. We naturally made a big deal about the coffee. Turns out they had brought it from home.

When we returned from our walk you can imagine our suprise: While we were gone the coffee fairy had visited us. Look what he had left us.

Thanks Gord. We really enjoyed our Tims

Hola From Chicxulub

January 30th, 2009

Good Morning

It’s a Friday morning, I think it may still be January, maybe February and we are in an Internet Cafe (with no coffee) in Chicxulub, near Progresso which is north of Merida, all in the State of Yucatan. We’ve  been with out internet for days, and here on the beach for a few. Our  plan is to head back to Paa Mul Saturday although we may need help getting out now that Dale and Sheila have us in their grasp. It seems like their happy hours last all day or maybe even days.

We have a bunch of new stories to share with you when we get back.

Yes, we miss you too.

Saturday Night in Chemuyil

January 27th, 2009

Just south of us by about 20 miles is the little Pueblo (village) of Chemuyil. In our gringo world Chemuyil is famous for one thing and thats pizza at a hopping little pizza joint called Pizza Leon’s. That’s their special “Mexican Pizza” you see in the picture. Last saturday night along with Guy and RoseMary we went for pizza and after dinner we took a walk around this tiny village. That place was absolutely hopping! In the little town of maybe a thousand people the streets were closed of in 2 areas for kid’s birthday parties. When we arrived, at one they were enjoying cake and ice cream but at the other the entertainment was in full swing.

Notice the young girl in the gorgeous dress. It’s her birthday but somebody’s little princess looks like she isn’t having too much fun.

Maybe she’s waiting for the Piniata.

I’m guessing that there had to be at least 50 people of all ages at each of the parties. A lot of people when you consider that there couldn’t be 1,000 people in the whole town.
